I always love it when I can report on new audio book releases from Three Ravens. As someone who mostly reads by listening these days, it really hits home when something I’ve been wanting to read gets an audio release. The work schedule prevents me from having much time to read physical books or ebooks, and has for many years at this point. Audio’s been a Godsend for me, and I know I’m not alone in that!
If fantasy’s your thing, you won’t be disappointed with this post!
Misfits of Magic Audio is Out:
Misfits of Magic was a lot of fun for the editors to put together. Ten great tales of adventures in fantasy realms, featuring heroes who don’t always fit the traditional mold. I was happy to contribute a story to this one, and I hope to return to that world and to Rina the apprentice fire mage at some point!
Dwarves, dragons, demons and more!
If you love axe-wielding barbarians, shape-shifting dragons, possessed toys, or cryptic assassins, then grab your traveling pack and join in the adventures.
In this collection, you’ll find 10 tales of fantasy, with new fiction by Writers of the Future winner, N.V. Haskell, a new Raven and the Crow short by Michael K. Falciani, a tale of Draven the Redwolf by William Joseph Roberts, and more.
Fans of Robert E. Howard, Lin Carter, David Eddings, Robert Jordon, and Karl Edward Wagner are sure to enjoy this fantastical collection.
The Feather and the Lamp audio is on the way!
L.N. Hunter’s debut novel The Feather and the Lamp will have its audio ready for purchase by the end of March! If whimsical adventures through a secondary world fantasy are your thing, you don’t want to miss the adventures of the hero Imperceptibility and the genie who’s trying to kill her:
A magic lamp should have been a gateway to Imperceptibility’s every desire…
So how did she end up in the underworld covered in slobber from a three-headed dog?
And then there’s capture by fanatical priest-mercenaries, sacrifice to a quantum dragon, and getting trapped in a chicken coop.
Will she ever find her way back home?
More important still, what’s a goose feather got to do with any of this?
– Goodreads 5-star review — A definite different story that will delight everyone. Words that will draw you in with the characters leading you through whatever happens.
What I’m Currently Listening To
Recently I’ve gotten into The Frith Chronicles by Shami Stovall. I’m working my way through book three, and there are five more to go after this! The first two were really quick reads, as the protagonist first gains magical powers and then attempts to learn more about them while also trying not to get killed as he’s in way over his head! And isn’t that the way of good adventure fantasy?
Magic. Sailing. A murderer among heroes.
Gravedigger Volke Savan wants nothing more than to be like his hero, the legendary magical swashbuckler, Gregory Ruma. First he needs to become an arcanist, someone capable of wielding magic, which requires bonding with a mythical creature. And he’ll take anything—a pegasus, a griffin, a ravenous hydra—maybe even a leviathan, like Ruma.
So when Volke stumbles across a knightmare, a creature made of shadow and terror, he has no reservations. But the knightmare knows a terrible secret: Ruma is a murderer out to spread corrupted magic throughout their island nation. He’s already killed a population of phoenixes and he intends to kill even more.
In order to protect his home, his adopted sister, and the girl he admires from afar, Volke will need to confront his hero, the Master Arcanist Gregory Ruma.
A fast-paced fantasy with magical creatures for those who enjoy the Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera series) by Jim Butcher, Unsouled (Cradle Series) by Will Wight, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.
An OST Blast From the Past
Lastly, some music! As my toddler gets ready to celebrate her second birthday, I wanted to post one of her favorite soundtracks to listen to at the moment. There’s a YouTube channel we’ve listened to while feeding and playing with her for awhile now called Rhythm and Pixels. Their 24/7 livestream plays music from the 8 and 16-bit eras, and there are several tracks she’s come to love from a variety of games. One of those soundtracks is this hidden gem of the Sega Genesis era, Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun. Some of the tracks have Shadowrun vibes for me, particularly Elven Wander and Elven Combat. The whole soundtrack is great:
