On the Three Ravens Discord channel, we have a sub channel called #muse-fuel that’s full of, well, fuel for the muse. Photographs of scenery or of weapons or of people’s miniature collections; artwork of characters or cityscapes or battle scenes (Both hand-drawn and AI-driven); and, the topic of today, music. There’s everything on there from old VH1 music videos to modern productions, with genres ranging from heavy metal to country to soundtracks to movies and video games. There’s something for everyone!
What’s your go-to for music to help you get through a busy work day or a mountain of chores? For me, it’s usually video game and anime music. If I’m writing a battle scene, I usually throw on a ten-hour loop of the battle theme from Final Fantasy 7: Remake. And with the sequel, Rebirth, on the way this week, I have no doubt there’ll be more great music from there to add to my writer’s playlist.
(I may not have time to play video games right now, but I can certainly listen to the scores!) If it’s a quieter scene, I’ll throw on the music from a town, or a game’s overworld music.
I’ve also come to enjoy watching different people’s reactions to some of my favorite music. It’s an interesting time to be on YouTube as a video gamer, and as a writer. While I may write books rather than screenplays or video games, it’s still interesting to see how much music can impact storytelling:
Writers, do you have a playlist to help fuel the muse? And is it something you’d ever want to share with your readers? I’ve got something for every major project I’m either working on now or would like to work on in the future, and it’s my hope to share them all someday. I’d love to know if that’s the case with you!
And since this post has mostly been about writers, there’s something I’d like to mention that’s very writer-specific:
Geek Girls Academy on the Write2Market Approach
Three Ravens Publishing is partnering with the ladies over at Geek Girls Academy on a class offering training and guidance to writers new and established. “Coaching from the Corvid Classroom” will have a focus on the best practices for taking your books to the next level and getting them into the hands of your target audience. By figuring out who that audience is and writing your books with them in mind, you put yourself firmly on the path to greater success by creating greater reader satisfaction. Happy readers lead to happy writers! Check back for more details in the future!
Three Ravens Will be at Murphy Music and Brews
Since we’re on the topic of music, we’ve got another announcement. Three Ravens Publishing will be at the Murphy Music and Brews festival coming up in April in Murphy, North Carolina! We hope to see you there! Enjoy great music, excellent craft beer and wine, food from local vendors. Best of all, 100% of the proceeds are going to benefit the Shepherd’s Men organization with its focus on helping veterans recover from their wounds physically, mentally, and spiritually.
