After years of reading classics like Swiss Family Robinson, The Time Machine, and Mutiny on the Bounty, I came across my first piece of genre fiction, hidden behind other books in the school library. And that book, was Conan of Cimmeria, a collection of short stories written by Robert E. Howard.
I fell in love with the action-adventure / sword and sorcery / sword and sandal types of stories, eventually finding other authors like Fritz Lieber, Michael Moorcock, and Simon R. Green.
Something about the freedom and flexibility of the characters and their situations hooked me and has never let go. These adventurers weren’t locked down to a 9-5. They followed their feet, driven by the winds of fate, and landed themselves in countless adventures, many of which were horribly bad situations. They hook you and take you on the adventure with the hero, in fantastical lands of beauty and terror.
In honor of these great authors and their titles from the genre, I wanted to put together an anthology of stories that I could only imagine Robert E. Howard and others would enjoy. And since this is one of my favorite genres, I wrapped it up into my William Joseph Roberts Presents anthology series.
I hope that you enjoy the stories in this anthology as much as have. A great collection from like minded fans of the genre.
Welcome to “Heathens & Heroes,” where the bravest souls find their destiny amidst the chaos of battle, and ancient swords gleam with untold power while dark magic crackles like lightning across the battlefield. Embark on an epic journey through the realms of imagination with this spellbinding anthology of sword and sorcery tales.
From the shadowed corridors of forgotten castles to the savage wilderness where mythical beasts roam, immerse yourself in a tapestry of adventure, honor, and mystic intrigue.
Where legendary warriors clash with dark sorcerers, and valiant heroes rise from the ashes of despair to defy fate itself.
Each story is a portal to a world of perilous quests, where the fate of kingdoms hangs in the balance and the line between heroism and villainy blurs in the heat of battle.
