If you’ve been around the Three Ravens crew at a convention, then you’ve probably heard the Rules mentioned or listed off in detail. It’s something that just started as a running gag joke between Hillbilly (William Joseph Roberts) and the Minions (Jenny E. Wren/Philip K. Booker)
Well, somewhere along the way, they kinda became a fun little aspect of the publishing house. So with a “good rules to live by” vibe to it, let’s get to it.
What are the rules?
- 1. Don’t cost us bail money! This is a good rule to keep in mind. Don’t do something stupid that will land you in jail. Hillbilly will not be happy if he has to bail out one of his authors, even though this rule is mainly for Hillbilly, who is very protective of his Minions and Ravens.
- 2. No Hospital Trips! This rule should be referred back to rule 1, and be a good reminder for all. DON’T DO STUPID STUFF!
- 3. Don’t “Fraternize” with the fans. This rule came about for our more, flirtatious authors to remind them that it’s generally frowned upon within the community to try and hook up with a fan.
- 4. Don’t let Jenny near the electronics. This rule also applies to anyone else in the flock who acts as their own Faraday cage or has the Dresden effect on electronics, especially when word counts and manuscripts are on the line.
- 5. Don’t Be a Dick! You’d think that this would be rule #1, but it just happened to get lumped at the end after the others and should be referred to rules #1, #2, #3, & #6.
- 6. Don’t Get Us Kicked Out! This one is kinda self-explanatory and should be referenced to rules #1, #2, & #5. Yeah, we like to have fun and cut up, especially when we get to all hang out together. But simply put, don’t do something stupid that will get us kicked out of a hotel, restaurant, etc.
- 7. Think Before You Eat! This lovely little rule came about because while at LibertyCon 2023 one of our much-loved minions who has a food allergy tested a food item on the back of their hand to see if it reacted, then proceeded to lick their finger clean. Needless to say, they reacted very quickly, took a dose of Benadryl, and were very itchy and uncomfortable for the rest of the evening. Also, refer back to rule #2 for more guidance.
