My whole household was down with some sort of illness this weekend, so we missed out on the chaos of Black Friday. Not that we would’ve gone, but we even missed out on some of the digital deals that were out there, and those are what we usually take advantage of. Fortunately, some sales continue on into this week like the Steam Autumn Sale, and there are a couple of games I’m looking to try out for what limited free time I have these days, like the open world detective sim Shadows of Doubt and the low-graphics, high-content Warsim: The Realm of Aslona.
One game I purchased recently that helps scratch both the gamer’s itch and the writer/reader’s itch is Roadwarden. To hear the developer describe it, it’s “an illustrated text-based RPG that uses isometric pixel art and combines mechanics borrowed from RPGs, Visual Novels, adventure games and interactive fiction.” That’s a long-winded way of saying it’s essentially an interactive visual novel, in the vein of the old text adventure games from the late 80s/early 90s, but with several quality of life improvements for a more modern audience. I can’t recommend this one enough:
