I hope everyone’s Christmas was well-spent, whatever it was you were up to! For me, it was more time in bed during the daytime than I’ve gone through in a couple years. Got sick with something that didn’t spread to the rest of the house, but it knocked me on my bottom for a bit. Feeling better now, other than a lingering cough—always the last thing to go! That said, the kids enjoyed their presents, and my oldest (4) had fun telling my youngest (2) about the true meaning of Christmas, as well as all the who and what and why of the Noah’s Ark toy the youngest had gotten. It means someone’s raising them right!
They then proceeded to dismantle Noah’s Ark and scatter the animals in such a way that it’ll take a second Christmas miracle to piece together again, but alas. It was fun while it lasted!
Now, I know we’re all still reeling from gifts and food comas and all that wonderfulness, but we’ve got the next year to get ready for already! And you know what you need in your life? Vernon’s powers are only skin deep.
Fortunately, when you have skin like Vernon’s, whose BENT-powered epidermis can feed him, allow him to breathe underwater and shrug off bullets—among other innumerable wonders—you don’t really need to go much deeper.
But Vernon is a man on a mission, and that mission is revenge. He wants to hit the Triads, the masters of Chinese organized crime, hard enough to end their reign of terror, and his skin, no matter how powerful it makes him, simply isn’t built for speed. He can’t work fast enough; as soon as he destroys a Triad installation, they build it back up.
So he needs help. Maia’s BENT is teleportation, and that completely changes the entire ballgame. If only he can convince her to come out of retirement.
When he finds her, however, they’re both roped into an operation that promises to give them what they want most… But at a price.
