I’d intended to write this last night (Sunday), but instead find myself at my usual coffee shop writing retreat, early on a Monday morning. The sun hasn’t even deigned to awaken yet, it’s so early! But, that’s part of the writer’s life, especially with little ones in the family. You make the time where you can, and prioritize what’s most important in that time. For me, it’s working on the next story. Or three different ones, in this case. A short story, a novelette, and a novel (that sounds like it should be the beginning of a “walk into a bar…” joke doesn’t it?) are all on my table, with more beyond them. More stories than I can hope to write in my life, I’m sure! But, I’m going to try my best to fill in all the extra spaces with writing, between this Monday and the next. We’ll see where it takes me!
Now, one of the stories I’m working on (short story) is a mecha story! In the Gundam / Macross sense rather than Battletech or Mech Warrior. It has a deadline for October 31st, but I’m hoping to wrap it up before the end of the month. A space opera about a shuttle pilot in the midst of a disastrous first contact with an alien empire, and the steps she must take to defend her dearest friend.
I have no idea when this will be available for people to read, but I do have an idea when a different mecha story will be available. Several books’ worth of them, in fact:
