Magic, monsters, and one mean little rooster!

As some of you who have been following my author page know, we’ve recently built our first chicken coop and installed the residents into their new home. Their guardian rooster, Pip, is on duty to protect the girls under his care. And they were gracious enough to reward us with our first eggs this morning.

Now, as a funny side note. Once upon a time in another lifetime, we had a pet Bantum Rooster that someone had saved from a few cats and given it to us. The little guy followed me around in the yard just like the dogs and would fall asleep on whoever’s lap he found himself in.

When I picked up the extra hens and Rooster on Saturday, this little guy was in the batch and is the spitting image of the original Pip.

The best part, when I heard him crow Sunday morning, it was the same pitiful little crow. He has already become a spoiled little rooster.

To see more of the coop build, the girls, and Pip, I’ve attached a tiktok video to the end of this post.

We also have a number of Fantasy, Military Scifi, Space Opera, and Urban Fantasy titles in the editing queue for this fall that we think most of you will enjoy. So stay tuned on here or one of our social media pages.

And before we get into the mundane weekly post, how about a little word about the Writer’s Journey from our very own, Michael K. Falciani…

Coming soon

Released from the rookery to the Three Ravens early readers, the next novel in the JTF-13 series is sure to put you on the edge of your seat.

What the history books never tell you…

In the decades leading up to the first Gulf War, modern weapons shake the air, land, and sea. Until finally, Saxüru, one of the old gods, slips through a fractured barrier and rises from the Red Sea, eager to take dominion.

But war has changed over the centuries, and Saxüru is met with the dogged resistance of Joint Task Force 13 ─ an elite, covert Unit sworn to hold fast against every evil, supernatural threat.

One particular warrior vows to track Saxüru and bring him down. Tapped for assignment aboard the Navy’s highly classified seventh hydrofoil, Thomas ‘Red’ McCraith joins the bedraggled crew of the USS Scorpius as theypatrol the shores of a region plagued by political unrest, religious extremists, and dark, ancient sorcery.

The conflict spills over, until the fate of all mankind hangs in the balance. With casualties and collateral damage mounting, time grows short for both sides. Tensions mount and the crisis escalates, as Saxüru summons his most horrific creature, Falak, the Serpent ─ which lives only to do its master’s bidding and yearns to feast again on human flesh.

Our recent releases

Love urban fantasy? What about a great comedic love story? Add in a good dash of magic and the mob and you have “Taking the Night” by J.F. Posthumus.

Magic and the Mob don’t usually mix well. But to survive, Selia Lascari has made both work in her favor.

Banished from her hidden island homeland and adopted into a Mob family, Selia has spent nearly a decade learning to live in the “modern” world of technology and doing legitimate business for one of the city’s oldest crime syndicates. Being a part of it all while still feeling very much apart from everything and everyone around her.

When she’s asked to run an errand, she discovers too late that it’s a trap. Alfi Barboni, a would-be suitor, wants revenge on her family and he’ll do anything to get it.

When her adopted father is left for dead in the attempted coup, Selia’s forced to turn to her only other option: the city’s vigilante known as the Sandman. Risking everything to protect her father and save herself, Selia dons a mask –a lot of Kevlar – and begins her search for Alfi… only to discover he’s nothing more than a necromancer’s puppet.

If Selia, with the Sandman’s aid can’t stop the necromancer and end the attempted coup, everything she holds dear will be left in ruin.

Seventeen incredible authors. Seventeen amazing stories. One fantastic sci-fi universe, where the only limit is one’s imagination. Welcome to Starflight.

Based on the exploration-based Starflight video game series created by Greg Johnson and the Binary Systems team, the stories in Tales From the Starport Lounge flesh out and shine a light into the darkest corners of the known universe. Join the last vestiges of Humanity and their alien allies (the reptilian Thrynn, the insectoid Velox, and the plant-based Elowan) as they attempt to carve out their own territory in a sector of space filled with wondrous opportunity and deadly threats. Brave explorers seek out new worlds to colonize while merchants cruise from starport to starport, their holds laden with exotic goods.

Not all in this futuristic setting have noble intent. For every prospector and trader attempting to make a difference, a dozen pirates, smugglers, and mobsters engage in all manner of criminal enterprise. Gangs fill the underbellies of every major city and raid the trade routes between the stars, pushing the outnumbered and outgunned Interstel Police to their limit and forcing civilians to take matters into their own hands. It’s a rough and tumble universe, where one wrong move could spell doom for an expedition, or grant enough wealth to buy a planet.

Board your ship and set course for stars unknown! The universe awaits.

Two brothers struggling to find their place in the world.

For the elder sibling Kildare, every morning begins with the memory of betrayal. Once governed by the principles of morality, Kildare has become an instrument of blood and steel—where the speed of his sword arm metes out his own brand of justice. Only the strength and resolve of his brother Zedaine keeps him from succumbing to the ever-present rage that burns behind his dark eyes. While employed by the mysterious sage Blade, the pair stumble upon Chameleon, a runaway tribeswoman displaying extraordinary psychic powers. Their meeting, however, is no chance encounter. A riddle Chameleon carries will change not only the future of the three, but the fate of the entire world.

Hundreds of miles away, Macklore, a powerful wizard of Brisbane, has been dispatched to the volatile city of Gallanse. Smitten at the sight of princess Lydia, Macklore defies his orders and finds himself thrust into the middle of a bloody succession. When he openly supports Lydia’s family, he is marked for death by a cult of magi working to raise the psychotic prince Dragomir to the throne. With few allies, Macklore must use his wits and innate magical powers to keep Dragomir from the crown and himself alive.

Racing towards Gallanse, Kildare and Zedaine are torn between saving Macklore’s life, extracting terrible vengeance upon the man responsible for their betrayal.

Someone wants Catherine dead.

Even worse – if possible – is that they also have two parts of the talisman she used during her days as the Lady of Death, which can turn even mundane items into powerful weapons. Long thought destroyed, someone has found the pieces, centuries later, and is determined to reassemble it.

Now, pregnant with Sterling’s child and unable to use most of her magic, Catherine must depend upon friends, family, and close allies to help locate the talisman. The demon trapped within it wants out, and if that happens, it will reign chaos – and potentially kill everyone – on Earth.

Catherine must find the talisman before whoever has it manages to kill her or acquires final piece of the talisman, allowing all of its powers to be activated. With no clues as to who’s on her trail, she’s forced to use herself – along with her unborn baby – and the last piece of the talisman as bait. Can she kill whoever posses the talisman before they kill her and her friends? Or will the talisman’s demon get what it most desires – escape from its centuries-old prison?

France, 1944. Allied forces are fighting in the hedgerows of Normandy, battling German armored forces. Hastily established airfields provided close air support and battle the Luftwaffe for control of the skies. One airfield is overrun by a supernatural horde, destroying every craft except a P-61 Black Widow, the allies’ new night fighter. Task Force 13, busy fighting the outbreaks of supernatural that always accompanies war, hasn’t an extra Marine to spare. A scratch crew of soldiers, airmen, and one stray Marine pilot are given orders to seek out and destroy the horde of “gremlins” before they do further damage. Along the way they stir up something larger than they bargained for, and the war takes to the air.
