Drifts, Drafts, and Diesel Engines!

(With a mix of gasoline and electric engines, as well!)

Welcome to March! For some, Spring has already sprung. For others, winter continues. For those in Aruba, winter never comes (And if it ever does, I fear for my current location. It means we’re buried in hundred foot snowdrifts).

What are your plans for this upcoming month and this soon-to-begin new season? For me, Shield of Souls continues its steady march toward completion. I really do think this draft is going to end closer to Elantris word count levels when it is finished, near 200,000 words. I expect I can tighten the prose up by about 10-15% (perhaps 20% in places), so that will shorten it a bit, but…That may just end up making room for more scenes that I realize are needed. Either way, this first novel-length foray into the world of Necrolopolis will be my longest manuscript. I’ve got beta readers eager for it, so I will get back to it shortly!

I don’t want to speak for him (too much), but William Joseph Roberts is also hard at work on a draft of his own. Fans of his Car Warriors novel Burning Roads will be pleased! If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet—or any of the other Autoduel Chronicles novels—then now’s your chance before more work their way down the turnpike!

Car Warriors: The Autoduel Chronicles brings the Steve Jackson Games TTRPG to life on the page (or in the ear canals, with the Audible releases). Fans of the Car Wars gameplay and the classic fiction from the 1980s and 1990s will love it!

Atlanta cabbie by day, amateur autoduellist by night, Ricky Turner is living the dream.

That is, until he wakes up in a Gold Cross facility to discover his last match was more than a failure, it was a fatality.

Indebted for the cost of the clone body and reboot, Ricky heads back to the arena to do the one thing he’s good at: drive offensively! But at the rate amateur matches pay out, it’ll take several lifetimes to clear his debt.

Luckily the AADA has announced a new nationwide road rally, designed to challenge even the heartiest of autoduelling teams and with prizes fit for a king. Its name?

Dead Man’s Run!

Can Ricky and his clandestine crew traverse the wasteland from Atlanta to Sturgis and survive against packs of cannibals, roving biker gangs, and wannabe autoduellists out to make a name for themselves?

Welcome to the world of the Car Warriors: Autoduel Chronicles — Tales from the freeways of the future, where the right of way goes to the biggest guns and death sports rule the airwaves. From clandestine highway battles to prime-time arena combat, jump behind the wheel, follow the fast-paced action, and never forget to Drive Offensively!

Car Warriors Autoduel fiction is licensed by Steve Jackson Games Incorporated and set in the Car Wars universe.

And speaking of Dead to Rights by Jay Barnson…

Tooth Fairy Day!

Yesterday (February 28th) snuck past me, but it’s worth mentioning for more than just being the end of a month. February 28th is National Tooth Fairy Day in the United States! So, even a day late, what better time is there to promote one of Effin Olders’ kids books than now?

Tulip has lost her first tooth.

Should she put her tooth under her pillow for the Tooth Fairy?

While she’s deciding, she gets a visit from Poppy, a fairy in the Tooth Fairy’s court. Poppy tells her that Queen Quinella, the Tooth Fairy, is in a heap of trouble.

Tulip and Washington Twinkle, along with their basset hound, Truffle, fly to Shimmer-Shire, the Queen’s beautiful fairy queendom. They need to find out who’s trying to ruin the Tooth Fairy’s plans for Shimmer-Shire Sunday — a super special day for children all over the world.

Will the Twinkles get there in time to find the scoundrel? Will they save the fairies’ extra-special day?
