
At sixteen, Silas Beatty had been doing a man’s work and fighting a man’s fights for four years. As part of Tinker Dave Beatty’s scouts, he had learned guerilla warfare from one of the best. Giving hell to the reb’s whenever they found them, the Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia were home and battleground for the young man.
With the War Between the States ending, the folks hoped their lives would become normal again. For Silas, who had spent a full third of his life fighting a bloody war, normal had a different look.
When some of the local Rebel supporters humiliated his mother and sister, hell rained down from his twin Navy Colts. Following advice from his older brother, Silas made the difficult decision to leave the only place he had ever known as home. Not sure what lay in front of him, he only knew he had to get out of Tennessee.
